What the presentation editor does

Slides is a 16:9 presentation editor for pitches, lessons, reports and talks. You can start from a blank deck or open an existing .pptx, edit the text and layout, present it in full screen and save a .pptx again. Nothing is uploaded, which matters when a deck contains unreleased numbers, client names or strategy.

How to edit a .pptx

1. Open the app, choose Slides, and open a .pptx file or drop one onto the window.
2. Click any text box to edit it in place. Use the thumbnail strip to add, duplicate, delete or reorder slides.
3. Press F5 to present, then export a .pptx when you are done.

Building slides

• Titles, subtitles, bullet lists, free text boxes, images and tables.
• Shapes: rectangle, circle, arrow, star, callout and card.
• Diagram blocks for a process, a funnel, KPIs and a hierarchy.
• Six themes, including dark, emerald, navy, charcoal, white and ivory.
• Speaker notes on every slide, kept when you import and export.

Presenting

Presenter mode uses real full screen, with arrow keys or the space bar to advance, a timer, a laser pointer and your speaker notes, so you can rehearse and present from the same browser tab you edit in.

What happens when you import a .pptx

Importing reads the slide layouts, masters and theme so text, colours and positions look close to the original. Some features are simplified, and the app tells you when it has done so:

• Gradient fills become a single solid colour.
• Rotation applied to a whole group of shapes is ignored, so rotated groups appear upright.
• Charts are not imported yet. A note marks where each chart was.
• SmartArt is shown as plain text rather than an editable diagram.
• Animations are not imported, and slide transitions are mapped to fade, zoom or slide.
• Embedded objects such as video and unsupported image formats are replaced with a placeholder note.

If a deck relies heavily on animations, charts or SmartArt, keep the original and use Slides for text edits, reviews and presenting.

Exporting

Export writes a standard .pptx file, including speaker notes, that opens in PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides and LibreOffice Impress. You can also save the current slide as a PNG image for a document or social post. There is no PDF export for decks at the moment. Print to PDF from the browser if you need one.

Privacy notes

Decks are autosaved to your browser's storage on this device, which is not encrypted. Use the File Safe to put a password on a copy before you share it, and read the security page for exactly what does and doesn't leave your computer.

Common questions

Will my deck look the same in PowerPoint after I export it?

Text, shapes, images, tables and speaker notes are written as normal PowerPoint objects, so they stay editable. Fonts depend on what's installed on the computer that opens the file, and anything the importer simplified, such as gradients, stays simplified. Open the exported file once before an important meeting.

Can I add my own pictures?

Yes. Insert images from your computer, or crop and adjust a picture in Image Studio first and send it straight to your slide.
